Characteristics in Comics - (Week 11)

"Alice In Sunderland"

- A lot of different media
-To show history it uses collages of real pictures and places while the characters remain black and white
-It uses horizontal lines to shade and dramatic lighting
-Half way through it changes it's realistic style to a more free formed style to show a theater story

"Blood on the Moon"

-There are 3 panels per page and are the width of the entire page
-Has a very realistic style
-Well established background and atmosphere compared to other comics
-Portrays the history of Native Americans and the war over the land with the whites

"The Dream Hunters"

-It's laid out in a picture book style. Instead of having comic strips with dialogue, it has a full page illustration then the next page in only text of the story.
-Each illustration connecting with the story with it's own unique color schemes
-Each illustrations comes across as surreal almost with fluidity while also changing the technique with each piece. (Watercolor drippings, pen, fully rendered art, ink etc.)
-The novel is also told within chapters like an actual novel
-It's through the perspective of a fox and a badger trying to take a home from a temple man

"Bone"

-Each character has their own personality and are unique in their own way
-The comic starts out with 3 characters apparently lost in the desert and are out of water
-It seems like a very fun looser cartoonish style compared to the other comics I've talked about
-Even the monsters that Bone eventually comes across have a very cute but also creepy style to them
-The comic can really be for any age as it is great for younger audiences but also is quirky for teenagers

"Channel Zero"

-Seems to be for more older audience like teenagers or adults
-It has a very bold style of black and white with no real shading. Simply big shapes of black or white to make the form
-Although the audience doesn't know exactly what's happening it's not confusing enough to the point someone would want to put it down. It's brief so far yet intriguing
-It's definitely a very moody piece full of mystery waiting for an explanation
-It also plays with panels a lot. Having an establishing shot, close up, etc. It is very maturely set up and can be almost seen as a film.

All comics has their own way of story telling. All different style of art whether it was through the means of only black and white stylized shapes, very cartoonish style or a realistic style. One similarity between all of these comic books could be that they do a very good job of making the viewer want to read more. By simply looking at the the styles they are all unique thus making one interested. Despite the many different genres they are in, they all share a common way of intriguing the viewer to read more.
